- Last November, the mayor of Noisy-le-Sec (Seine-Saint-Denis) had the idea to print prevention messages concerning domestic violence on the packaging of bread.
- The #NousToutes collective followed suit to disseminate the initiative at the national level. 615,000 packages are being printed.
What if baguettes of bread made it possible to fight against gender-based and sexual violence? Last November, the town hall of Noisy-le-Sec (Seine-Saint-Denis) had the idea to print messages preventing violence within the couple on baguette wrappers, distributed in bakeries in the city. . The
collective #WeAll decided to go further by creating a kitty so that the process takes place at the national level.
“Bakeries are a strategic place to effectively prevent violence. Each year 6 billion baguettes of bread are consumed. The bakery remains one of the few places where we still go despite the restrictions linked to the health crisis, ”says the collective. He added: “The baguette, this everyday product, can thus become a useful instrument to reach women victims of violence, even the most isolated, and to raise awareness among the population more widely. “
“615,000 packages are being printed”
The packaging is thus made up on one side of the “violentometer”, a prevention tool put in place by the City of Paris, the department of Seine-Saint-Denis and the “En Avant All” association. It makes it possible to assess the degree of violence in a relationship based on concrete everyday examples. The other side will display useful numbers for people who are victims of violence. The pot which aimed to raise 14,000 euros for the printing of 300,000 packaging has already raised this March 8, 28,500 euros.
Thousands of bags will soon be distributed to bakeries. “615,000 packages are being printed. All departments will be affected. The distribution will begin in two weeks, ”says one within the collective contacted by 20 Minutes. The goal: to reach more than a million people. And for good reason.
“225,000 women are victims of domestic violence each year and that the reports on the platform arretonslesviolences.gouv.fr have increased by 60% during the second confinement, there is an emergency. If the government does not want to dedicate the necessary resources to fight against gender-based and sexual violence, we are taking action! », Recalls the collective.
