Baldwin shot dead – investigators find projectile – and recover 600 pieces of evidence – news

  • The police were able to recover the projectile from the pistol that actor Alec Baldwin used on the set of the western “Rust”.
  • The investigators announced this at a press conference in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
  • According to the police, there are indications that there was more live ammunition on the set – but further investigations are necessary.

Sheriff Adan Mendoza confirmed: The pistol Alec Baldwin fired a shot last Thursday contained live ammunition. Investigators had found 600 pieces of evidence during the search of the filming location, including three weapons and around 500 ammunition loads and blank cartridges, it said at the press conference on Wednesday.

The investigations continued, District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies said. It is too early to decide on a possible charge. Everyone involved, including actor Alec Baldwin, would cooperate with the police.

Criticism of security measures

The focus is also on the two employees on set who handled the guns: a 24-year-old gun master and the assistant director to whom Baldwin handed the gun. According to a police report, the assistant director had told the actor that it was a “cold weapon” without ammunition.

Suspicions about lax security precautions were also supported by a report on the news site “The Wrap”, according to which some crew members allegedly used live ammunition in their spare time to shoot beer cans. Accordingly, such a target shooting would have taken place a few hours before the fatal incident on the set, a journalist told the broadcaster CNN. One of these weapons was passed on to Baldwin. The police could not confirm the information, but said they were investigating.

Cameraman fatally injured

Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was fatally injured in the incident while filming a film ranch in New Mexico. Lead actor and producer Baldwin had fired the gun, now designated by the police as a 45 Colt revolver, during the rehearsal for a scene.

Director Joel Souza was injured in the shoulder in the incident, but was able to leave the hospital a little later.
