Everything is ready for the event that aims to relaunch economic dynamism in Barcelona. Tuesday marks the start of Barcelona New Economy Week (BNEW), a meeting promoted and organized by the Barcelona Free Trade Zone Consortium to position Barcelona as “the world capital of the new economy”. The event, which will have a hybrid format between face-to-face and online, will run until Friday and is aimed at the professional public in the logistics sector, the digital industry, the real estate sector and e-commerce.
The celebration of the BNEW was announced in mid-May, at one of the worst times of the health emergency due to the pandemic caused by covid-19. The Barcelona Free Trade Zone Consortium conceived this event as a way to revive an economy, which has suffered an unprecedented downturn and is having difficulty recovering.
In the presentation of the event last Wednesday, the special delegate of the Government in the Consortium of the Zona Franca, Pere Navarro, clarified that this event is “neither a fair nor a congress”, but an “innovative and disruptive” celebration. . The main feature of this meeting is the telematics component and the need to innovate in this context: the same presentation last week was carried out using holograms.[TEX-ENTRA] There are 1,000 confirmed face-to-face attendees, 8,000 telematics from 91 different countries, 358 speakers and 120 companies represented.
The face-to-face activities will take place in three spaces: Estació de França, Casa Seat (at the junction between Avinguda Diagonal and Passeig de Gràcia) and Telefónica’s Movistar Center. These activities can only be attended by 1,000 people and a safe environment and measures to prevent covid-19 are guaranteed. These spaces will function as television sets, which will generate live content from 11.00 to 19.00.
The bet for an event usually online is, according to Pere Navarro, a bet for the future that can change the fair and congress scene, forced to adapt to the difficulties generated by the covid-19 pandemic. The Consortium has invested two million euros in this event, which is expected to have continuity in the coming years and can even be replicated in other cities. The celebration of this show has generated 140 direct and 550 indirect jobs. The general director of BNEW, Blanca Sorigué, stressed last week that thanks to the 37 sponsors the event is already sustainable from the first year.
