It’s a shock for Patricia and Lise: their cat Charlotte, who had disappeared in 2013, is safe and sound… and had lived 1km from their house all this time. This miraculous reunion in La Louvière is however due to an unfortunate accident: the person who took care of Charlotte recently died.
Alain used to pick up all the stray cats in the neighborhood. He was taking care, as best he could, of 13 cats in his home. Following an accidental fall, Alain left us, and his cats were left to fend for themselves.
The Haute Senne police zone was surprised to discover this entire colony of felines living in unsuitable conditions. The Louvière SPA took care of them and realized that this gentleman had never bothered to check if the animal had a chip. The fact that Charlotte’s information was still in the database, allowed the SPA to return it to Patricia and Lise.
The owners were all the more surprised that they knew Alain. From time to time, they crossed him, and discussed “his” cats.
The La Louvière SPA takes advantage of this beautiful story to remind you that it is very important to check if a stray animal is identified. This can be done at a veterinarian, a police station, in a shelter or in certain pet stores. Before adopting a found animal, it is necessary to disseminate its report widely for 45 days, and notify the authorities and local shelters. This year, the La Louvière refuge welcomed 806 cats, 36 of them were returned to their owners.
