Yin Xiyue and An Zhexiu held a press conference in the National Assembly at 8:00 a.m. that day and issued a joint declaration, stating that “in order to achieve regime change”, they decided to jointly promote Yin Xiyue as a single candidate.
Ahn Cheol-soo expressed his resignation as a candidate and fully supported Yin Xiyue’s election in order to achieve regime change.
In their joint declaration, the two said that from today onwards, they will carry the people’s expectations for regime change and prepare for the era of great transformation that will change and innovate the Republic of Korea.
The two sides also emphasized, “We are a team and will make up for each other’s shortcomings… We will alternate regimes together, take over regimes together, prepare regimes together, form governments together, and achieve political alternation and era alternation with the power of regime alternation.”
The declaration stated that the next government will be a “future-oriented and reformed ‘national unity government’, formulate and implement future national affairs issues, and operate national affairs centered on ‘practical policies’ that are most needed in the future of Korea.”
It is reported that after the two met from the evening of the 2nd to the early morning of the 3rd, after more than 2 hours of negotiation, they reached an agreement on simplification. The party’s chief spokesman also said the two parties would merge after the election, but the time frame had not yet been set.
