Soccer world champion is said to have locked women

There are colossal allegations to be dealt with in court in Chester, England.

Manchester-City-Star Benjamin Mendy (28) is accused of eightfold rape. A total of seven women are said to be affected.

There is also an attempted rape and sexual harassment. Mendy however denies everything. The incidents are said to have taken place between October 2018 and August 2021 in a remote Mendys estate near Manchester.

There the women are said to have been isolated, frightened and intimidated. The British news agency PA reported from the courtroom. Among other things, they were locked in rooms and their cell phones were taken away. According to prosecutors, a total of 13 women testify against Mendy and an alleged accomplice in the process.

In addition to the French, another man is accused of rape in several cases. According to the indictment, the 40-year-old is said to have specifically selected women and brought them to Mendy. He also denies the allegations.

Mendy moved to Manchester City in 2017 and became a national team player. At the 2018 World Cup he was in the French squad, played once and became world champion. He played a total of 74 games for City (two goals, 14 assists).

He last played for City against Tottenham on August 15, 2021. Shortly thereafter, the rape allegations became known, whereupon City suspended him.
