The Nicaraguan Government ordered to celebrate the 200 years of Independence from Spain with various activities around the country, although for opponents the official initiative aims to give an image of normalcy when the country is going through a serious political, economic and health crisis.

A big patriotic celebration. The Nicaraguan government decided to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the signing of independence from the Spanish Crown with various parties despite an aggravated political and health crisis.

The announcement of the national holidays was in charge of Rosario Murillo, first lady and vice president of the country. “In commemoration of the 2021 bicentennial national holidays, we go on vacation, decreeing a holiday with pay as of September 10, that is, Friday at the end of the work day, and we close the period on Sunday 19, for all state workers, “said Murillo.

However, many Salvadorans have little confidence in the cryptocurrency, mainly due to the lack of information on how it will be executed and the possible risks of its use. Cuba for its part also seeks to recognize cryptocurrencies as legal tender and in Venezuela citizens have found a profitable option in virtual currency mining.

The bicentennial of Nicaragua’s independence is a celebration shared with El Salvador, Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Honduras.

The Government ordered public schools to hold musical parades in most neighborhoods and cities in the country, something that is customary at this time but which is disturbing for independent doctors who have denounced a rebound in Covid-19 infections.

The independent Covid-19 Citizen Observatory made an urgent call to the population to carry out a voluntary quarantine in the event of a possible “collapse of the health system.”

Nicaragua was one of the few countries in the world that did not carry out any type of quarantine or restrictions since the beginning of the pandemic.

“Locking yourself up is like burying your head like an ostrich and dying,” President Daniel Ortega declared last week. “The solution and it is demonstrated in the countries that wanted to force the people, even imprisoning those who did not comply with the confinement; that was not the solution. Rather, it caused more deaths and intra-family problems (…) You have to know how to go out into the streets, doing it carefully, you have to know how to go to work, doing it carefully. Every day, even without an epidemic, if one does not travel carefully, death is there by accident ”, justified the president.

Recently, the German embassy in Nicaragua assured that they have warned travelers about the “high risk” of the Central American country to contract Covid-19. “Nicaragua has been classified as a high-risk country, this means that, after entry without full vaccination, a ten-day quarantine is mandatory that can be interrupted at the earliest after five days by means of a negative PCR test,” declared a diplomatic source to EFE.

Opposition: “What they want is to distract attention”

In the context of Independence, the Archbishop Curia of Managua pointed out that “the political and social situation in Nicaragua should not continue the same” after “decades of confrontations.”

“We have decades of confrontations that have generated unemployment, widespread poverty, citizen insecurity, forced exile, efficient neglect of education and health,” said the Catholic hierarchy, confronted with the Government after supporting the victims of the repression of anti-government protests. of 2018.

Daniel Ortega and his wife intend to continue in power for a fourth consecutive term since 2007. The country is going through a series of arrests and trials behind closed doors against at least 35 opponents, including seven presidential candidates who planned to compete against Ortega in November of this anus.

Regarding the electoral process, the Curia said that it longs for a country “where there is no fear of free, transparent and competitive elections, nor are there political prisoners or the media closed or prevented from reporting.”

In Costa Rica, where the majority of Nicaraguan opponents have taken refuge, the politician Enrique Sáenz assured that celebrating the bicentennial in the midst of such a complex panorama obeys a political strategy.

“Dictatorships have no imagination and repeat what other dictators have done in other times, not only in contemporary times (…) this bread and circus has come from the Romans. What they want is to distract attention especially from the youth, ”said Sáenz.

In 1821, the region was called “Captaincy General of Guatemala” and most of the countries lived in relative coexistence. At the beginning of September 1821, the news of the independence of Mexico was announced, which motivated the Provincial Delegation of that time to meet on September 15 in Guatemala to also declare its independence from the Spanish crown.
