Is it illegal to drive as fast as possible on a track with no speed limit? The police and the public prosecutor’s office now want to clarify this question after a Czech in a Bugatti Chiron sped over the A2 at 417 kilometers per hour.

When is a car too fast, even for a stretch without a speed limit? The public prosecutor’s office in Magdeburg is now addressing this question at the request of the police. The reason is investigations into the Czech billionaire Radim Passer, who drove his Bugatti Chiron at 417 kilometers per hour and uploaded the video of his joyride to YouTube. Although there is no speed limit on the section shown between Berlin and Hanover, the police are now being determined after intensive checks because of an illegal street race, said a police spokeswoman.

The video, which apparently dates back to last summer, shows a sports car shooting over Autobahn 2 at up to 417 kilometers per hour. The police spokeswoman said the behavior was irresponsible. The Federal Ministry of Transport was also critical. Any behavior on the road that leads or can lead to a hazard to road users will be rejected, according to a spokeswoman.

Bugatti emergency braking takes 491 meters

Even if there are no official speed limits on many sections of the Autobahn in Germany, there are still rules that must be observed: be it driving on the right or staying in lanes. Also said Section 3 paragraph 1 of the Road Traffic Act clear that you can only drive so fast that you can stop within the foreseeable distance. According to Bugatti, emergency braking at 400 km/h takes 491 metres.
