The musician of the British punk band died in London at the age of 72.
Pogues bassist Darryl Hunt has died aged 72, the British Celtic folk punk band announced on Tuesday. “We are saddened beyond words. Our Darryl passed away yesterday afternoon in London,” the Pogues said on their Twitter account.
The band posted a black and white photo of Hunt, quoting a snippet from the song “Love You ‹ Till The End” he wrote: “I know you wanna hear me catch my breath. I love you until the end”. Pogues leader Shane MacGowan has paid tribute to his “great friend”. “I’m very very sorry that Darryl passed away, he was a really good guy, and a great friend and a great bass player,” he tweeted.
Born in Christchurch, South West England, on May 4, 1950, Darryl Hunt studied fine art at Nottingham School of Art. He first played with pub rock band Plummet Airlines before forming punk band The Favourites.
In September 1986, he joined the Pogues as bassist after having worked for them as a technician. Hunt first played with the group on the album “If I Should Fall From Grace With God”, released in 1988, and until their last album, “Pogue Mahone”, in 1996.
