Board of Directors: how is the scenario going towards the election of the list that will lead the next legislature?

The next tuesday july 26 the election of the new Board of Directors of the Parliament, which will be in charge of legislating and supervising in the second year government of peter castlewhose management has been marked by continuous acts of alleged corruption that already accumulate 5 preliminary investigations by the Prosecutor’s Office.

With an Executive in these conditions, the scenario of the aforementioned election presents a divided opposition into two sectors: on the one hand, the list of Lady Camones Alliance for Progress (APP), which was confirmed last Thursday; and, on the other, the formula that heads Gladys Echaíz who resigned from APP to join People’s Renewal y whose candidacy was confirmed yesterday Saturday.

Whitout deal

The division of the opposition towards the Board of Directors seems to go back to the last yearon the eve of election of María del Carmen Alva (AP) as president of Congress.

At that time, the list headed by Alva included APP, Podemos Peru and Avanza País. The opposing list was headed by Jorge Montoya and composed only of members of People’s Renewal. The days before, Montoya denounced “pressure” not to preside over the Board of Directors and considered that AP “showed up” after “fighting” with Peru Libre and that “they forbade the participation of People’s Force“.

Today, in dialogue with RPP NewsMontoya considered that, currently, the same scenario repeats itself since Fuerza Popular, which is part of the list of Camones, offered a Gladys Echaíz join as vice president in its formula not to give in “before communism”.

“Is exactly the same speech that they used last year to take me out me from the elections. Do you think I’m a communist? Do you think I’ve been with the government? I have been the opposition stronger than the government has had during this period and we are going to do the same thing now,” Montoya said.

In addition, the also spokesman for Renovación Popular stated that they were not going to “agree” with the party led by César Acuña.

“Us we can not go and agree with people who work that way or who have the government support, as they have. Our position is direct and clear. We have nothing to hide, we say what we think and do what we think is best for the country,” he said.

It is worth saying that, at the press conference in which Echaíz’s candidacy was presentedMontoya and the aforementioned parliamentarian appeared accompanied by congressmen from Country advances, Norma Yarrow, Alejandro Cavero, Patricia Chirinos and Adriana Tudela; and announced that the list would be “multipartidaria“.

After the officialization of this candidacy, the former third vice president of Parliament, Patricia Chirinosvia Twitterexpressed his sympathy for Gladys Echaíz to lead the Congress and considered it a “responsibility to support her”

With Echaíz heading a second opposition list, the APP leader, Cesar Acunadescribed this fact as an act of “sabotage to the unity of the opposition forces”.

Similar appreciation had the parliamentarian Rosangela Barbaran Popular Force who pointed out that they opted for “share to the opposition” and that they cannot “go with Free Peru just as Dra Echaiz has slipped it”.

Likewise, Barbarán asked Camones and Echaíz to “put the country forward” and “sit down to talk so as not to leave the door open to the left”. However, so far, that dialogue does not seem to be possible.

Looking to add support

On the other hand, the candidacy of Lady Camones, so far, has the support “In block” of People’s Force.

Likewise, yesterday, Saturday, a “honor engagement” in which the spokesmen of said bench, of We are Peru, Advance Country y We can Peru they announced their back to the “democratic bloc led by Lady Camones” and committed her to “give up“to the Board of Directors in the case of President Castillo and Vice President Dina Boluarte were vacated.

However, other parliamentarians announced in the previous days that they did not support the list of Camones. Such is the case of Ruth Luquespokeswoman for Democratic Changewho pointed to RPP News that his group is holding talks with other center-left benches to form another list. In that sense, he stated that Lady Camones should not apply because she is part of the outgoing administration.

“We believe that they should not lead a table because they have not contributed and rather have added to this logic of discredit. That is why we strive in this dialogue and hopefully consolidate a next list,” said the leftist parliamentarian.

For its part, Elvis Vergaraspokesman for People’s Actionconsidered “quite difficult” for his bench to support Camones’s candidacy.

“It is quite difficult for the Popular Action bloc, In blockvote for Lady Camones, she will probably have one vote or another, but it is difficult for it to be a majority because she has a position that does not seem appropriate to us about the party,” the AP spokesman said.

Likewise, Alex Florescongressman from Free Peruassured that his group will not support Lady Camones because his candidacy represents a continuity.

“There are proposals for Board of Directors that go for continuity and this would be unfortunate for the country,” Flores said.

Third option

As is known, last Thursday, the spokesman for Peru Libre, Waldemar Cerronannounced that his bench was preparing his own proposal to the Board of Directors. Today, in dialogue with RPP NewsEdgar Tello, a congressman from the Magisterial Bloc, pointed out that his caucus had been working on a “consensus block” which includes the government party and other sectors of the center and the right.

“We have been talking and a consensus block with benches, not only from the left, from centeralso from the right to guarantee that governability,” he said.

In that sense, Tello specified that the rapprochements have been made with benches such as Popular Action, Popular Renewal, Free Peru “and others with whom it is coordinating.” As a result, he pointed out that today Sunday they will announce the candidate that will lead this formula.

However, he stated that he still “no names” defined in this possible third list.

“It’s each bench has to bring it. Even the Magisterial Bloc still has not defined his candidate for the Bureau, to give an example. But that will be defined by the bench today (…) Some benches have already defined who their candidates will be and, in those talks, it will be decided“, he explained.
