BOLA – Hungary closes borders again and puts European Super Cup at risk (UEFA)

The Government of Hungary announced this Friday that it will close the country’s borders from September 1 to at least a month, in order to prevent the spread of Covid-19. Foreigners will only be allowed to enter with reasoned exceptions, or military, humanitarian convoys and diplomatic or business trips.

This decision puts at risk the European Super Cup, which will take place in Budapest on September 24 and which will be played by Bayern Munich and Seville.

In this regard, UEFA intends to meet with the Hungarian government in the coming days to decide the ways in which the event will take place in view of these contingencies.

The game would be open to the public, so the capacity of the Puskas Arena will be reduced to 30 percent, which translates to about 20 thousand fans in the stands. Now, everything can change and the decision is in the hands of the government, which will meet again this Saturday to finalize some details.
