Booking platforms – “Hotels will be able to offer better rates”

What will this change concretely for them and for customers? Interview with Joris Barbotin, director of the Hôtel Mirabeau, a 4-star establishment in Lausanne.

Does the definitive yes of the parliament to the “lex Booking” represent a big relief for you?

We will regain our entrepreneurial freedom. It’s the least you can do when running a hotel. We are dependent on these platforms. Selling rooms online at the price we want, reducing the weight of commissions, playing on availability and conditions and building customer loyalty, that’s the basis. In addition, customer data belongs to us and not to these platforms, which further reduces dependency. Today, in Lausanne, Booking, which holds the majority of the market, takes between 12% and 15%.
