A baby who just came into the world is a very weak being. The invisible immunity is also weak, and the same goes for dogs. Guardians will have to use their strength to strengthen their immunity as the puppy is younger.

Immunity, simply put, is the power to avoid infectious diseases. Newborn puppies acquire immunity by eating colostrum with antibodies, that is, through maternal antibodies. After about 6 weeks of age, the antibody rapidly decreases, and from this point on, vaccination at the veterinary hospital is required. The major infectious diseases that can be prevented by vaccines are the three most common viral diseases in dogs. Let’s learn about this viral disease today.

It spreads through droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes, and is highly contagious. Respiratory symptoms include coughing, sneezing, and runny nose, and digestive symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea, and bloody stools. A specific symptom is abnormal fever, and there is a period of calm between the first fever and the second fever. It can also cause keratoconjunctivitis sicca, in which the tear glands are destroyed and the eyes become dry. The nose and soles of the feet crack and harden, and it can cause seizures that move the mouth like chewing gum quickly. If these neurosymptomatic seizures occur, the prognosis is poor. Unfortunately, even if you manage to survive, you may still suffer from seizures for the rest of your life.

paroxysmal inflammation

Parvovirus, which is excreted in feces of an infected individual, is transmitted when it enters the oral or nasal cavities of dogs. Even if it is not necessarily feces, it can be transmitted indirectly through media such as shoes and soil with parvovirus. Paroxysmal enteritis also has symptoms such as vomiting, anorexia, lethargy, and high fever, and diarrhea is the main symptom. This is because the parvovirus destroys the intestinal villi, the protuberances that absorb water and nutrients. When a parvovirus-infected patient has diarrhea, it starts with grayish-white diarrhea and leads to bloody stools that smell fishy.

Corona enteritis

The coronavirus excreted in the feces of infected individuals is transmitted by entering the oral and nasal cavities of puppies. Diarrhea is the main symptom because the coronavirus destroys the intestinal villi, just like paroxysmal enteritis. Diarrhea has a fishy smell, but it is orange or yellowish green, unlike paroxysmal enteritis. Rarely see bloody stools. Other symptoms include vomiting, loss of appetite, and lethargy. Corona enteritis has milder symptoms than paroxysmal enteritis. While coronaviruses attack the tips of the intestinal villi, parvovirus attacks the roots of the intestinal villi, causing them to shed altogether.

Immunity is like memory, which declines over time. Because of this, even adult dogs can get viral diseases. It is recommended to check whether the antibody is sufficient through an antibody titer test once a year, and to receive an additional vaccination when the antibody is insufficient.
