On September 3 of this year, an empty container transshipment center was put into operation in the Port of Shanghai, which will provide the transportation of empty containers to the Yangtze River Delta region and ports along the Yangtze River by waterway, road and rail made possible, thereby further increasing the capacity of the port of Shanghai as an international shipping hub.

Yu Fulin, director of the Shanghai Municipal Transport Commission, said Shanghai has been working with the Yangtze River Delta to accelerate the construction of a global shipping hub, improve the smooth and resilient shipping collection and distribution system, and improve shipping service and brand influence promote comprehensively in order to improve the resilience of the supply and industrial chain.

In the first three quarters of this year, the port of Shanghai’s container throughput reached 34.89 million TEU, registering positive year-on-year growth and showing strong growth resilience.
