The brazilian team achieved a comfortable 2-0 win on visit to Uruguay in Montevideo on the fourth date of the Qualifiers to Qatar 2022, a result that held them as the only leader of the championship.
In the first passages of the meeting it was the locals who were closest to opening the scoreboard, with a shot on the crossbar by Darwin Núñez after four minutes of play, which caused the goalkeeper to fear Ederson.
The actions were mostly dominated by the “Celeste” squad, but at 33 minutes of play the first goal for the “Scratch” came through Arthur Melo, who kicked from outside the area and counted on a deflection from a rival defender to send the ball to the back of the net. Before the break, Richarlison stormed the area with a subtle header that stretched the advantage, before the sterile reaction of goalkeeper Martín Campaña.
The second period of the meeting was marked by the expulsion of Uruguayan attacker Edinson Cavani, who saw the direct red card at 70 ‘for a strong stomp on Richarlison. The play had to be reviewed in the VAR by the Chilean referee Roberto Tobar, who confirmed the violation of the “Matador”.
