Maintaining the positions they have achieved in the survey Panorama Mobile Time/Opinion Box made at the end of last year, the Instagram and the WhatsApp — both of Meta — are the apps most used by Brazilians. In the three criteria measured by the survey, the two led easily among users in the country, showing their high popularity here.

According to the data released by the Mobile Timethe messenger is on the home screen of smartphones from 59% of Brazilians, while the social network of videos and photos is in 55% of the appliances. Both rose in relation to what was observed in the last survey, which showed WhatsApp with 54% and Instagram with 49%.

O Facebookin turn, appeared in third place, being in “only” 39% of Brazilian smartphones, followed by Nubankcom 16%. It is the first time that Instagram occupies the core of the search app popularity radar, previously only occupied by the messaging app.

Regarding the most opened app per day, WhatsApp — with more than twice as many openings as Instagram — remains in the lead, although it gives way to the network in terms of usage time. In the case of this second criterion, the difference between the messenger and the third place, occupied by the YouTubewhich was left with only 7% of Brazilians’ time dedicated to smartphones.

Among the social networks, Instagram has the almost absolute adhesion of 91%considerably larger than the 82% of Facebook and far superior to 41% from TikTok. Half of those surveyed, in turn, responded that if they could only have one app on their device, that would be WhatsApp, while only 15% would choose Instagram.

O Twitter and the LinkedIn, on the other hand, have seen their penetration drop in recent months. The first is installed in 33% of Brazilian smartphones (against 37% six months ago), while the second is present in 31% (against 35% previously). Streaming apps also remained at the same level or saw a drop in usage.

The survey also brought data on betting apps, which are, according to the survey, a fever in the country. One in four Brazilians has already used one of these apps, with the most popular being bet365 and the Beta. Men bet more on these apps than women and 60% of people who have gambled report having already lost money.

To arrive at these data, Panorama Mobile Time/Opinion Box interviewed 2,069 Brazilians aged 16 or over who access the Internet and have a smartphone, between April 12 and 24, 2023. The margin of error is 2.1 percentage points and the degree of confidence, 95%.
