“Breaking the Myth: Women’s Interest in Sex Continues to Rise with Age, According to a 15-Year Study”

A study that followed more than 3,000 women for about 15 years showed that significant numbers of women show a great interest in sex, even as they age, according to CNN.

This study, presented by its lead author, Associate Professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Holly Thomas, refutes the perception deepened by previous studies, which found that women tend to lose interest in sex as they age.

And Thomas confirms that women’s health doctors say that the previous perception does not correspond to the reality that they see.

She says that 27 percent of the 3,200 women confirmed that sex is still very important to them in their forties, fifties and sixties.

“If a woman is able to talk to her partner and make sure she is having sex that is both satisfying and pleasurable to her, then she is more likely to consider sex as very important as she gets older,” she explained.

“These results are surprising and provide valuable information for health care providers who believe that women’s sexual desire wanes as they age,” said Stephanie Faubion, medical director of the Postmenopausal Society of North America, director of women’s health at the Mayo Clinic, who was not involved in the study. Age and they see it as a normal part of aging.”

Faubion said, “Sex will not look the same to a woman at the age of forty as it did at the age of twenty, and not the same at the age of eighty as it was at the age of sixty, but women who enjoy good health and good relationships remain sexually active.”

In the study, African American women were more appreciative of sex and its importance to them throughout midlife, while most Chinese and Japanese women rated sex as having low importance throughout their midlife years.

The study, which was presented in 2020, indicated more influencing social and cultural factors than biological factors, and that there is a difference regarding women’s view of aging, and whether it is normal for women to continue to appreciate the importance of sex as they age.
