After 25-year-old African-American Ahmaud Arbery was shot while jogging in Georgia, the police arrested the two suspects. The 64-year-old Gregory McMichael, a former police officer, and his 34-year-old son Travis were charged with serious physical injury and murder, the GBI crime agency said.
According to investigators, the suspects confronted Arbery with two firearms. Travis McMichael is accused of shooting Arbery. Gregory McMichael’s testimony had already become known before. Accordingly, the jogger looked like a burglar. He and his son then armed themselves and stopped Arbery. There was a fight between Travis McMichael and Arbery over the rifle. Then the 34-year-old shot twice. Arbery died from the injuries.
The deed took place on February 23 in the city of Brunswick. However, Lee Merritt, the lawyer for Abery’s family, released a video a few days ago to show the fact. This brought the case to wider attention. However, Merritt wrote on Twitter of three suspects instead of two. The lawyer accuses the suspect of “murder” for racist reasons. He asked for life imprisonment without probation.
Prominent personalities such as basketball star LeBron James and tennis icon Serena Williams had also recently been shocked by the case.
