Brussels rest homes close their doors to refugees

The Brussels Minister of Health justifies his decision by the need to protect residents against health risks.

To accommodate Ukrainian refugees, the mayors of the various municipalities of Brussels had considered making available empty beds in rest homes, which have been quite numerous since the coronavirus crisis.

It was counting without the refusal of Iriscare. “The use of places available in nursing homes has been excluded in principle. Iriscare has even specified that no exemption will be granted”, deplores the college of mayors in a letter addressed to the Brussels Minister of Health Alain Maron. According to the mayors of Brussels, the beds used for the refugees would no longer meet the conditions provided for by Iriscare and would therefore be downgraded.
