The Federal Network Agency has announced the results of a representative survey. After evaluating the answers, it is clear, among other things, that WhatsApp is still at the forefront of the popularity of the communication services.
No change at the top
According to the new results of a recent consumer survey on the use of communication services, the winner has been determined. Despite the lack of data protection, WhatsApp is the undisputed leader in user favor in Germany. However, alternative services such as Signal or Skype are catching up bit by bit. This is hardly surprising, because the corona pandemic is forcing everyone to use such a service in order to be able to maintain regular contacts at all. According to the results, many users tend to use several services of this type at the same time. Around 88 percent of participants use communication services several times a day. WhatsApp leads here with shares of around 93 percent. This is followed by Facebook Messenger (42 percent) and Instagram Direct Messages with 25 percent. For the Facebook platforms, however, the trend barometer is clearly pointing downwards.
Microsoft Teams with 14 percent
In 2019, Microsoft Teams was hardly an issue, that has changed fundamentally in the meantime. The application has a value of 14 percent in the survey. You might think that this value should actually be higher if you find yourself in a video conference several times a day. Skype and Skype for Business are also growing and at 20 percent are around 2 percentage points above the result of the 2019 survey. Zoom is at 18 percent, Signal (13 percent), Discord (8 percent) and Telegram (16 percent) also crossed the finish line with significantly more users than in previous years. 2,141 people across Germany over the age of 16 took part in the consumer survey from August 2021.
