Lhe cafes and bars in Brussels will have to close their doors one month from Thursday 7 a.m., announced Rudi Vervoort (PS) on leaving the Brussels Security Council. The restaurants remain open.

A ban on the consumption of alcohol in public spaces 24 hours a day has been decided on throughout the territory of the Brussels Region.

Cafes that do not sell alcohol, tea rooms, as well as theaters are also targeted by the new measure. All places of alcoholic or non-alcoholic drinking establishments are concerned, alcohol not being the criterion.

Amateur sport will now be played behind closed doors.

It will not be allowed to go to a restaurant for a drink without consuming a meal. “These are strong measures that have been the subject of a consensus of all the players. The objective was to have the clearest possible measurements, ”declared Rudi Vervoort during the press conference.

A new meeting is announced for Friday with education stakeholders to assess the situation.
