In Mallorca, the hope for a new start had grown in the past few days. She was nourished by looking at the infection figures published by the Spanish Ministry of Health.
The number of new infections in the Balearic Islands, to which Mallorca belongs, was well below the crucial mark of 50 per 100,000 inhabitants within a week. It seemed possible that the German travel warning for Mallorca would soon be lifted. But nothing will come of it, Madrid has miscalculated. The reason is probably a transmission error between the local authorities and the Ministry of Health, as the “Mallorca Zeitung” reports. The correct number of cases should be 120 to 170 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days.
In fact, the infection situation on the island is tense. Since Friday, 23,000 residents of a district of Palma de Mallorca have only been allowed to leave their neighborhood for the bare minimum – for example to go to work, to the doctor or to school. On Friday, Spain reported a new record for the whole country: 12,183 new corona cases within 24 hours. Meanwhile, Norbert Fiebig, President of the German Travel Association (61, DRV), criticized BamS for the five-day quarantine announced by Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (40, CDU) when returning from risk areas. “In this way, the federal government is effectively preventing travel agencies and tour operators from exercising their profession. There is currently almost nothing that can be sold for the winter. This makes the travel industry a trader without goods. ”
Spahn’s recommendation to spend autumn and winter holidays in Germany is a double standard. Fiebig: “There are currently three hotspots in Bavaria. In Spain there are a number of tourist-relevant islands – for example Lanzarote, Formentera and Menorca, which don’t have a single hotspot. Nevertheless, a travel warning applies there. That is absurd – and not only harms the German travel industry. “
Super spreader (26) is sick in bars
It is a noble hostel for members of the US Army: the “Edelweiss Lodge and Resort” in Garmisch-Partenkirchen (Bavaria). Now an American employee is said to have spread the corona virus rapidly in the hotel and the surrounding area. On Friday alone, 33 people tested positive for Covid-19.
“The outbreak can be traced back to a 26-year-old,” says district spokesman Stephan Scharf to BamS. The woman celebrated in various restaurants after her return from vacation in Greece. Stephan Scharf: “Although she was showing symptoms of a corona infection at this point, she wanted to keep enjoying herself.”
Because the number of new corona infections in the district is over 50 per 100,000 inhabitants, the authorities had to pull the rip cord. Restaurants have to close at 10 p.m., private celebrations are limited to a maximum of 50 guests and there is a contact restriction for more than five people.
The superspreader is now being investigated on suspicion of violating quarantine requirements (fine of up to 25,000 euros).
The “Edelweiss Lodge and Resort” will be closed for two weeks from tomorrow.
7 dwarfs violate corona rules
London – Please groups with a maximum of six people! This is prescribed by the new, stricter British corona rules.
Because rehearsals with seven dwarfs would be illegal, a pantomime theater in the English county of Essex canceled its Snow White performances. If you had only played with six dwarfs, the rehearsals would still have worked. But on stage with Snow White, they would break the rules again.
Vaccine study continues
Oxford – After the clinical trial had stopped, tests on a promising corona vaccine candidate by the University of Oxford and the British-Swedish pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca in Great Britain continued.
The test series was resumed after the British health authority said that safety was guaranteed. Around a week earlier, the tests, which took place in the United Kingdom, the United States, Brazil and other countries, were stopped worldwide after a participant showed health problems.
