This week, Grimes assured that Lil Uzi Vert was going to buy a planet, called WASP-127B. However, not sure that this is really possible.
The information went around the web this week: after his famous diamond a few months earlier, Lil Uzi Vert is about to buy … a planet, called WASP-127B. The announcement was made by Grimes, Elon Musk’s companion on Twitter, specifying that the rapper was filling out the necessary documents for its obtaining. However, can we really acquire a celestial body?
Well, the Space Treaty, drawn up in 1967, certifies that it is not. In fact, space is considered a “common heritage”, which implies that it does not belong to anyone. The treaty specifies, as the HuffPost, what “The Moon and the other celestial bodies, cannot be the object of national appropriation by proclamation of sovereignty, nor by way of use or occupation, nor by any other means”.

Lil Uzi Vert: an impossible acquisition?
The problem: since 1967, the conquest of space has evolved in a prodigious way and at the same time upset this relatively complex legislation. A possibility would however be mentioned since the “Obama Space Act” of 2015. But once again, all is not very clear. If the latter indeed specifies that “American citizens can undertake the commercial exploration and exploitation of space resources”, however, he does not claim that the purchase of a celestial body is possible.
It will certainly be necessary to wait for the officialization of the purchase of Lil Uzi Vert to be convinced of the acquisition and especially to understand how it was possible. However, some specialists do not really consider the information. Asked by the media Watson, Domenico Barbato, researcher in the Department of Astronomy at the University of Geneva, sees only“A little buzz and a very expensive piece of paper.”
