Ontario has recorded 3,056 new cases and 51 more deaths, bringing its toll to date to 234,364 infections and 5,340 virus-related deaths. The most affected areas in the country’s most populous province are Toronto (903 cases), Peel (639 cases), York (283 cases), Durham (162 cases) and Ottawa (152 cases).

Quebec for its part reported 2,225 additional cases and 67 fatalities, so much so that the province now has 240,970 patients with COVID-19 since March 2020 as well as 9,005 fatalities. Nearly 34,000 samples have been taken as of January 14, for a total of 5.3 million.

It is in Montreal where the most people have been infected with COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. On Saturday, 958 new contaminations were reported in the metropolis, ahead of other regions such as Montérégie (327 cases), Laval (219 cases), Lanaudière (113 cases), the Laurentians (109 cases) and the Capitale-Nationale (101 case).

“Let us continue to limit our contacts and to respect all the sanitary measures to make [diminuer] cases and hospitalizations. To get there, we need the collaboration of all Quebecers, ”Minister of Health and Social Services Christian Dubé said on Twitter.

Other provinces have updated their data, such as Manitoba (180 cases and 1 death), New Brunswick (27 cases) and Nova Scotia (4 cases).

As of afternoon, Canada had a cumulative, since the start of the pandemic, of 701,196 cases (+5492) and 17,848 deaths (+119).
