Rock Oz: 35,000 spectators for the farewell to the arenas
The 30th edition of the Rock Oz festival, the last before the five-year renovation of the Roman amphitheater in Avenches, ended on Sunday evening.
Rock Oz’Arènes said goodbye Sunday evening to the arenas of Avenches (VD). Some 35,000 spectators took part, over five days, in the 30th edition of the festival, the last before the renovation of the Roman amphitheater.
The work will last at least five years. Meanwhile, Rock Oz will be migrating to a new location, which will be revealed soon.
For its farewell, the festival experienced an edition “filled with emotion, joy and resilience”, the organizers said in a press release on Sunday. They add to have experienced “an emotional roller coaster”, in particular in reference to the last minute cancellation of Placebo for family reasons.
Finding a replacement for the headliner of the Saturday evening, three days before the concert, seemed “impossible”, say the organizers. They were however able to find the Irish songwriter Michael Patrick Kelly.
If this replacement has aroused some criticism from festival-goers on social networks, the organizers assure that the spectators were “captivated and conquered” by this concert which they did not expect. “The arenas remained packed with a mesmerized audience for an hour and a half,” they say in their press release.
Announcement in September
Among the other highlights of this 30th edition, the festival cites in particular the concerts of GIMS, Worry Blast, Status Quo, Louane or even Robin Schulz during the electro evening on Friday. The event ended on Sunday with a 100% Swiss evening with, among others, Stephan Eicher and comedian Yann Lambiel.
While waiting to find the arenas, a priori in 2027, Rock Oz should return next year to another site, not necessarily to Avenches. “Several projects are under discussion and awaiting authorisation”, underline the organizers. They add that “great news” could be announced in September.
