Even before its conference, Capcom had already fired two of its main cartridges for the coming months. Indeed, the Japanese publisher announced before the Summer Game Fest the remake of Resident Evil 4 as well as Street Fighter 6, but kept a few surprises for its own Showcase. Between Resident Evil Village, SF6 and Monster Hunter Rise, here are the main announcements to remember!

Summary

  • The monster hunt is on
  • The “Stick” interlude
  • An exo-Jurassic experience
  • The Umbrella Corporation Chronicles

The monster hunt is on

Capcom starts its Showcase with nothing less than the main course. Of the thirty minutes that the conference lasted, nearly 10 of them were allocated to Monster Hunter Rise, and more specifically to its extension. Sunbreak promises, among other things, a new area to explore. The jungle, already present during the second generation of titles in the franchise, is therefore making a comeback with new environmental elements and even dynamic life. The playful experience always revolves around dantesque fights alone or in teams against increasingly tough monsters. The Espinas, the Hermitaur Daimyo and the Gore Magala thus join the bestiary of MH Rise. That’s not all. According to the developers, two other creatures are still missing.

The most impatient fans, and there are many of them, will be able to discover the new features of this DLC from June 15, 2022 via a demo without any game time limit. To this paid DLC are added several free updates. From August 2022, the “The Forbidden Tower” area, the Selenite Nargacuga as well as other rare and special monsters will enrich the title. Then, during the fall, then winter, two other updates also offered to players will in turn add content. On the program: rare and special monsters, subspecies of monsters and improved monsters. Finally, other free updates are to be expected in 2023. As a reminder, Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak releases on PC and Nintendo Switch on June 30, 2022.

The “Stick” interlude

Video game “brawl” enthusiasts probably left disappointed with the Capcom Showcase. In effect, Street Fighter 6 was satisfied with a brief passage without even offering the players the slightest new information. The publisher simply recalled the cast (Ryu, Chun-Li, Luke and Jamie) and the addition of a new mode allowing you to explore the Street Fighter universe like never before. SF6 hits the PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One rings on a date yet unknown.

An exo-Jurassic experience

Announced during the March 2022 State of Play, Exoprimal made a grand entrance three months later at the Capcom Showcase. This is an a priori ultra-nervous third-person multiplayer action game in which players follow the directives of an artificial intelligence named Leviathan. The latter, for reasons yet to be discovered, unleashes hordes of dinosaurs. Fortunately, human guinea pigs are equipped with exoskeletons with devastating power and various abilities in order to survive during these life-size combat simulations.

In the main game mode, Exoprimal opposes two teams of five players who must complete the objectives set by the AI before the opponent, compete and/or cooperate depending on the situation. There are several mission types including Elimination, VTOL Defense, Escort, Omega Assault, and Energy Gathering. The developers also took advantage of the conference to present two new armors: the Barrage and Vigilant assault exoskeletons. Others are to be expected. As players progress, they will be rewarded with XP, but not only to improve their armor. For the most curious among you, Exoprimal will launch a closed network test shortly before being released by 2023 on PC, and home consoles (PS4, PS5, Xbox Series and Xbox One).

The Umbrella Corporation Chronicles

The other big piece of the Capcom Showcase was, unsurprisingly, the Resident Evil franchise, with in the front line Resident Evil Village. With its 6 million sales, the latest episode in the saga offers a third-person extension centered on the enigmatic character of Rose. Sixteen years after the disappearance of her father Ethan, the teenager follows the advice of a certain Michael who urges her to return to Eastern Europe in the footsteps of her deceased father. There she will meet a mysterious double.

Resident Evil Village: Shadows will be released on October 28, 2022 and will be included in the Winter’s Expansion which includes said DLC, but also content for the Mercenary mode (the characters of Chris Redfield, Karl Heisenberg and Alcina Dimitrescu as well as new levels) – and a “Third person” mode for the main adventure with Ethan. On this occasion, Capcom will release the Gold Edition. The latter includes the original game and the Winter’s Expansion. That’s not all. Resident Evil Village will soon be playable in virtual reality on PlayStation 5 thanks to PlayStation VR2. A Mac version is also in development.

Léon S. Kennedy takes over for an adventure that marked the history of video games when it was released in March 2005. Announced a few days ago, the remake of Resident Evil 4 unveiled new images that should delight fans. Six years after the events of Resident Evil 2 and 3, now Special Agent Kennedy is sent to Europe to find the daughter of the President of the United States of America. If the game seems to retain its qualities of yesteryear, it has some notable differences, notably visual, with the source material. The design of the Ganados, the main enemies of the game, has been completely redesigned. The Resident Evil 4 remake will hit PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on March 24, 2023.

In addition to these announcements, Capcom peaufine Resident Evil VII as well as remakes of Resident Evil 2 et Resident Evil 3 via a “Next Gen” update. Players will be able to take advantage of the latest RE Engine features, namely a 4K display, better framerate, Ray Tracing and 3D sound spatialization on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. those with an Old Gen version of the three games mentioned can update them for free and thus rediscover them in 2022.
