Eight CF Montreal players will try to make their case for a possible place on the Canadian national team for the 2022 World Cup.
On Wednesday, goalkeeper James Pantemis, defenders Joel Waterman, Alistair Johnston, Zachary Brault-Guillard and Kamal Miller, as well as midfielders Samuel Piette, Ismaël Koné and Mathieu Choinière, were invited to a pre-selection camp in Bahrain, which will include a friendly match against that country’s side on 11 November.
“Since the camp will take place before the official international window, the Bahrain camp will mainly bring together players whose MLS season is over. The camp provides an opportunity for Canadian players to acclimatize to the heat and weather conditions of the Middle East, while playing another important international pre-season match against an opponent from outside CONCACAF,” Canada Soccer said in a statement.
Among the CF Montreal players on site, Koné, Johnston, Miller, Waterman and Piette were part of the Canadian selection in September for a series of preparatory duels. The last of this batch also stands out with a total of 64 selections within the formation of the maple leaf.
It is also a return with the Canadian team for Brault-Guillard and Pantemis, they who participated in the final qualifying round for the World Cup. Choinière will be on his first camp for the senior national team.
