Buenos Aires – The International Book Fair in Buenos Aires is underway, and santa Cruz is making its mark. The province’s participation began with the presentation of Patricia Halvorsen’s latest book, “Charlotte: Beyond the Horizon.” This event,supported by the Secretary of State for Culture under the ministry of Government,aims to promote the rich literary landscape of Santa Cruz to the fair’s extensive audience.

Patricia halvorsen: Chronicler of Patagonia
Patricia Halvorsen, a writer from El Calafate, is known for her deep curiosity about the past. Her works often explore the customs and history of Patagonia. Some of her notable titles include “Between the river of turns and continental ice,” “The Basque of the truck, a real patagonic story,” “Masked identities in Patagonia,” “La Leona, History of Balsas, Boliches and Tangles,” and “Standhardt, itinerant photographer” Women in southern Patagonia.” These stories celebrate the lives and contributions of both men and women in the southern regions of Argentina. Halvorsen describes herself as:
curious of the past.
Halvorsen’s novel, “Charlotte: Beyond the Horizon,” reconstructs the life of Charlotte Fairchild, a well-known figure in Río gallegos. The author expressed her enthusiasm for the opportunity to present her work at the fair, stating:
It was a pleasure to get to the International Fair because it allows us to reach people who are not from Santa Cruz.

Interviewer: Your latest novel, “Charlotte: Beyond the Horizon,” has been highlighted at the fair. Can you tell us a bit about the inspiration behind this work and what drew you to Charlotte Fairchild’s story?
Patricia Halvorsen: “Charlotte” is about reconstructing Charlotte Fairchild’s life, a well-known figure in Río gallegos, who I found to be very engaging. The novel is a way to give voice to the women who shaped Patagonia. Her story, and the stories of those times, resonated deeply with me. I wanted to bring her tale to life, and to connect past and present through her eyes.
Interviewer: Your previous works, spanning various facets of Patagonian history and culture, have resonated with readers. How do you approach researching and writing about the region’s past?
Patricia Halvorsen: curiosity, as the article has said, is the core. I immerse myself in the history, the customs, the stories that have been passed down through generations. I view each project as uncovering layers of the past, and I try to bring what I find to the present. It’s a labor of love, as it’s more than simple research; it’s about breathing life into the people who shaped this unique region.

Interviewer: The International Book Fair in Buenos Aires is a major event. How does this possibility, and being part of the Santa Cruz collective, impact your work?
Patricia Halvorsen: it allows us to reach a wider audience, and it’s also an opportunity to connect with fellow writers. as I said, the fair is a “garden where we find everything,” allowing us to share ideas and support each other. Promoting Santa Cruz at such a significant event is very crucial.
Interviewer: The article also mentions the various events planned for the Santa Cruz stand. Which activities are you moast looking forward to?
Patricia Halvorsen: I am thrilled about the presentation of my latest novel, of course, but I am also excited to attend some of the panel discussions by my fellow writers from Santa Cruz. It’s a chance to celebrate the diversity of voices and stories within our province, this event being a celebration of literature.
