In relation to the forecast made by the Meteorological Directorate of Chile isolated showers could be registered in Santiago during the night of Friday 7time for which cloudy skies are also expected.

Isolated rains may extend in some sectors during the early hours of Saturday 8, a day for which a minimum of 8° and a maximum of 19° are forecast, with clear skies for the afternoon.

It should be considered that time is a measurement that can undergo variations over the hours.

An issue that has caused concern in recent years has been the amount of rain that falls during the winter. The above, given the rainfall deficit which has become an important theme during the months of said season, June, July and August.

According to the Meteorological Directorate of Chile and with data recorded in Quinta Normal, Santiago, To date, 156.6 mm of fallen water has been recordeda high figure compared to last year’s 107.0 mm, but both are low when compared to the estimated normal to date of 267.6 and annual normal of 286.2, leaving a deficit of 41.5%.

Although the rains have also registered drops during previous measurements, where in the same period 41.4 mm were documented in 2021, 181.6 in 2020 and 59.2 mm in 2019.

The climatologist of the University of Santiago, Raúl Cordero, commented to the Third that the previous month was also worrying regarding the amount of rain that fell.

“In Santiago the rains during September were barely 8mm; far from the values considered typical for this month. Precipitation deficits in the central zone have approached 30%, while in the capital the current deficit is greater than 40%. The moderate temperatures in Santiago and Hurricane Ian are connected by La Niña”, analyzed the professional.

Regarding the most recent hydrometeorological report prepared by the General Directorate of Waters (DGA)published on September 26 and in which 25 reservoirs are monitored in nine regions of the country, the volume currently stored is 3% lower compared to the same date in 2021.

The reservoirs analyzed are divided into 12% for drinking water, 64% for irrigation, 16% for generation, and 8% for mixed use of generation and irrigation. Currently, 4,979 million m3 of water are stored, while last year in the last week of September 5,120 million m3 were registered.

Despite the fact that the deficit compared to the figures is barely 3%, the report specifies that the monthly historical average is 6,663 million m3.

Meanwhile, it stands out that six reservoirs have a current volume of less than 20% of their capacity. These correspond to Lautaro in the Atacama region used for irrigation; La Paloma, Cogotí and Culimo de Coquimbo, used for the same function; in addition to Peñuelas de Valparaíso for drinking water; and Lago Laja del Biobío for generation and irrigation.
