Chile: two million people without a fourth dose may suffer limitations

More than 2.2 million people who do not have the fourth dose of the vaccine against coronavirus could be restricted from June on Chile if they are not inoculated, the Ministry of Health warned on Tuesday.

Undersecretary of Public Health, Christopher Squareexplained at a press conference that these laggards received the third dose six or more months ago and that they should already have the fourth injection against the COVID-19.

Chileone of the first countries that began to vaccinate in the world, will suspend from June all those over 18 years of age without a fourth dose the so-called “mobility pass”, which allows entry to any closed establishment and attendance at events massive.

In recent days, there have been long lines at vaccination centers, especially in the capital, where 8 of the country’s 19 million inhabitants live.

The evolution of the pandemic

After a spike in infections in February caused by the omicron variant, which raised daily infections to levels never seen in a pandemic in Chileabove 40,000, the pandemic stabilized, although in recent days infections have risen again.

“In the last seven days, an average of 4,968 daily cases were registered, which implies an increase of 35% compared to the previous week,” said Cuadrado.

Health authorities reported that 3,179 new cases and three deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, bringing the total balance since the beginning of the pandemic to 3.6 million infections and 57,813 deaths.

Patients admitted to units of intensive careHowever, they continue to decline and now barely reach 150, most of them without the full vaccination schedule. (EFE)
