Five of the nine vaccines that have reached the third phase of clinical trials worldwide are developed by China.
Chinese citizens could begin to be vaccinated against covid-19 in November or December as clinical trials are proceeding smoothly, an expert from the China Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) quoted this as saying. Tuesday, September 15 by the official press.
The CDC’s chief biosafety adviser, Wu Guizhen, expressed her belief that vaccines against the disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus could have an effect between one and three years, points out the state newspaper Global Times.
For now, five of the nine vaccines that have reached the third phase of clinical trials worldwide are developed by China, so Wu said that it is the Asian country that is “leading” the race to discover it.
In fact, the expert took part in one of the trials carried out in the country: “I was injected with a vaccine in April, I was a volunteer in the tests. I feel fine right now, ”he explained.
Regarding the manufacture of the vaccines, Wu revealed that experts from the National Health Commission are “intensively” reviewing the production plants, and that for now two have already received the green light from the authorities.
Being a “high risk” virus, the expert points out that it is imperative that vaccines are produced in a negative pressure environment that prevents the pathogen from being filtered outside or to other rooms.
Beijing approved the emergency use of the vaccines for health and other sectors at the end of July, so the general population would not be the first to receive the injection in November, if that date is finally specified.
As explained a week ago by a director of the China National Biotechnology Group (CNBG), developer of two of the Chinese immune sera that are in phase three of clinical trials, at least two experimental vaccines have already been administered to “hundreds of thousands of Chinese ”without contagions or side effects.
So far, clinical trials have begun in humans of just under 40 possible vaccines worldwide, of which a dozen are carried out in China.
