Climate more important than inflation and refugee crisis

An analysis published by ARD is intended to show that the German “Tagesschau” reports too little about climate change. In fact, there is hardly a topic that occurs more often – this is shown by an NZZ analysis of 44,000 programs and articles over the past fifteen years.

In 2022, the climate was mentioned in almost every second “Tagesschau” program – significantly more often than inflation or the refugee crisis.

The ARD wants to report more about the climate. The broadcasting association therefore has several Survey and analyzes published in his journal, which are intended to prove that this also corresponds to the wishes of the German fee payers. The most recent evaluation is dedicated, among other things, to the climate reporting in the “Tagesschau”, Germany’s most important news program on public television. Scientists from the University of Hamburg have counted and compared selected terms from all programs since November 2007. Her conclusion: the climate is overall a “side issue” that lags behind other issues such as the economy.
