The local BA.5 epidemic peak is really here, breaking new highs for two consecutive days! The Central Epidemic Command Center announced today (14) that there were 49,708 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in China, including 49,540 local cases and 168 imported cases; 37 new deaths were confirmed among the confirmed cases. Today, the number of local confirmed cases continues to write a new high since the outbreak of the local epidemic in mid-August after yesterday, and the number of newly confirmed cases in New Taipei City officially exceeded 10,000.
The command center said that there were 49,540 new local cases today, and a total of 13 counties and cities exceeded 1,000 cases. The cases were distributed as follows: New Taipei City (10,635 cases), Taichung City (6,452 cases), Taipei City (5,853 cases), Taoyuan City (5453 cases), Kaohsiung City (4061 cases), Tainan City (2865 cases), Changhua County (2137 cases), Hsinchu County (1520 cases), Hsinchu City (1350 cases), Pingtung County (1316 cases), Yilan County (1212 cases), Miaoli County (1125 cases), Yunlin County (1062 cases), Keelung City (982 cases), Nantou County (872 cases), Hualien County (761 cases), Chiayi County (681 cases), Chiayi City (448 cases), Taitung County (375 cases), Penghu County (164 cases), Kinmen County (186 cases), Lianjiang County (30 cases).
According to the statistics of the command center, the last single-day high of new local confirmed cases was 48,283 cases on June 23, and 46,795 new cases yesterday.
Luo Yijun, deputy head of the medical response team of the Central Epidemic Command Center, said that among the confirmed cases today, there were 37 new deaths and 145 new cases of severe patients, 103 new cases of moderately ill patients, and 42 new cases of severe patients. There were no special severe cases of children and adolescents.
However, among the new deaths was a man in his 20s. Luo Yijun said that the man had received three doses of the vaccine and had a history of arrhythmia. On September 9, he felt a sticky throat and a sore throat. Self-quick screening was positive, and the diagnosis was confirmed by video diagnosis and treatment on the same day, and the doctor also prescribed drugs for symptom treatment.
Luo Yijun said that the man was found in a coma at home by his family that night and was rushed to the hospital. When he arrived at the emergency room, he had no breathing or pulse, and the electrocardiogram showed arrhythmia. The hospital’s PCR test result was positive, with a Ct value of 10. Despite the emergency intubation, he unfortunately passed away on September 10 due to the deterioration of his condition. The cause of death was diagnosed as new coronary pneumonia and arrhythmia.
