Bar in Basel
The Caffé Bar Bücheli had to close on the instructions of the health department of Basel-Stadt. Milder interventions have not led to the goal, the agency said. The bar operators see themselves as scapegoats.
- A bar in the suburb of Steinen was closed by order from the Basel City Health Department.
- The bars of the Basel nightlife scene caused a party scandal because the visitors did not comply with the distance rules.
- The closed bar could not understand the decision and wrote on Facebook that they were “the scapegoat of the stones”.
- The bar’s Facebook post for closing has now disappeared.
- According to the health department, the closure measure is “the last resort” to enforce the current corona rules.
The reason is that the bar filled the outside area with music, as the operators reported on Facebook. The restaurant business played too loud music on two consecutive evenings. A police patrol stopped the bar on Wednesday to close the doors or turn off the music.
Police officers again found on Thursday evening that the outside area had been “sounded”. Those responsible had shown themselves to be “unreasonable”, but had turned off the music. The health department finally closed down immediately due to a “violation of the provisions of the COVID 19 regulation”. The bar operators described themselves on Facebook as “scapegoats” for the party scandal in the stones and posted the official letter from the authority.
Post deleted again
According to the Facebook entry, the Bücheli Bar was overrun by the guests at the weekend after the reopening. The situation was out of control; but not only with them, but in the whole stone suburb. The post has since been deleted.
Of the 20-minute readers, only a few understand the bar: “It was clear that when the bars opened, people came out and wanted fun,” commented one reader. Many write of “bad excuses” on the part of the bar operators. One user says, for example: “Every bar was obliged from the outset to take protective measures.” Someone says to the closure: “Right.”
Closure was “last resort”
The Basel health department does not comment on the statement by the bar operators. Basically, however, it should be noted that “such an order can only be given if the necessary facts relating to the company are available and can be presented to those affected accordingly,” as media spokeswoman Anne Tschudin said on request. “Closure is the last resort if milder interventions have not led to the goal,” said Tschudin.
However, the media spokeswoman did not find out whether the health department had contacted the bar because of the Facebook post. The affected bar did not respond to the request from 20 minutes to Sunday evening. The sanctioned company can appeal against the decision, as Tschudin from the health department says. And: The regulation is valid until the shortcomings are remedied.
