Kochi: Since 1991, working as a co-director in Malayalam cinema, K. Satish becomes an independent director. Sathish, a native of Thiruvananthapuram, will start a new chapter in his career with the film ‘Two Men’, which will be released on August 5. He has worked as a co-director with many directors and has already worked in around fifty films.
Satish made his film debut in the early nineties while working as a sales executive. The turning point came when he met director Suresh Unnithan through a friend of his. But he initially discouraged Satish. The advice was not to lose the good work that is already in place. But Satish did not back down. In 1991, he became a co-director in the movie Mukhachitram. Satish Kumar started. Soon Suresh became Unnithan’s associate.
Meanwhile, Viji got to know Thambi. So he acted in the hit film Satyameva Jayate directed by him. Followed by Mr. Brahmachari and Avan Chandi’s Son with Thulasidas. Satish was a busy associate director at Keram for the next two decades. During this time, he made several attempts to make his own film, but nothing was successful.
Satish had the experience of going to any actor and telling a story in Malayalam cinema at that time. Still, his own film did not materialize. In 2007, the project with screenwriter Jinu Abraham (Adam John, Tiger) stalled after starting pre-production work. Biju Menon and Kalabhavan Mani were to play the lead roles in the film. Advances were given to the stars and technicians and the song recording was over. But the dates of the two busy people do not come together. Two and a half years passed with that project. Finally abandoned.
Deeply disappointed, Satish sat at home. With the economic crisis, he decided to go back to work as an associate. So he came back to cinema with the film Kataksham. Busy again. Meanwhile, I heard stories about making my own film. After crossing the age of 50, many people thought that Satish would not make his own films anymore. But film workers who were friends tried to give confidence to Satish. So when the work on the next project started, the covid came. Life is in crisis again.
Understanding the changes in cinema during the Covid era, the journey began towards the goal of a film with only a few stars, which is shot in a small location. There are also many obstacles. Finally decided to prepare a story of my own. Decided to go ahead with it. At the age of fifty-seven, K. Satish is becoming an independent director. That film is ‘Two Men’ which will be released on August 5.
