Coastal Court trial – Virginia Markus sentenced to suspended financial sentence

The anti-species activist had participated in the kidnapping of 18 kids. She was exempted from punishment for the videos she secretly took in the same slaughterhouse.

Virginia Markus was sentenced this Thursday to a sentence of 100 day-fines at 20 francs suspended for two years and a fine of 200 francs by the Police Court of the Coast in Nyon.

The anti-species activist was on trial for five actions carried out in French-speaking Switzerland. She intended to denounce the very existence of any form of animal exploitation.

Virginia Markus had participated in thekidnapping of 18 kids at the Rolle slaughterhouse in March 2018 and had placed hidden cameras in the same slaughterhouse a year earlier. She had formed a human chain on the road in Aubonne, had chained herself to a barrier at the Bell slaughterhouses in Oensingen (SO) and had stolen 24 hens from Micarna in Vernayaz (VS) in the company of other militants.
