The Minister Delegate to the Minister of the Interior, Noureddine Boutayeb, on Tuesday in Rabat, highlighted the efforts made as part of the National Plan to cope with the cold wave, for the winter season 2020-2021.
This national plan targets 1,776 douars in 235 local authorities in 27 provinces, said the official, who answered a central question to the Chamber of Councilors, stressing that 147,000 families are concerned (755,000 people).
According to Mr. Boutayeb, the 1,776 douars, which form 6% of all the douars of the Kingdom, represent 2% of the Moroccan population and 6% of the population of the rural world.
In this context, he indicated that since October, 6,237 pregnant women have been identified and care has been provided for those in an advanced stage of pregnancy (1,397), in maternities and health centers, adding that 4,109 people living in the street received assistance and 18,352 meals were distributed in remote areas.
The Minister Delegate also reported on the provision of 6,797 blankets and the provision of medical services to 3,330 beneficiaries, thanks to the organization of 1,119 mobile health units and 151 medical caravans.
It was also proceeded to the opening of 415 road sections, including 77 national, 94 regional, 180 provincial and 64 other unclassified roads, he added.
In addition, more than 40 douars have been opened up, not to mention the support provided by the helicopter response teams and the installation of snow barriers, he continued, noting that it was also decided to as a preventive measure, to suspend classes in 3,050 schools.
The government official recalled the prevention measures taken, including the revitalization of the piloting center and the mobilization of more than 800 machine drivers, made available to the external services of the Ministry of Equipment and Transport.
In the same framework, 1,738 people were responsible for communication, in addition to the supply of basic products to the areas concerned and the identification and development of 1,047 helicopter landing platforms.
In his answer to another question on “the role of regions and municipalities in the face of the repercussions of Covid-19”, the minister indicated that the spread of the virus is being monitored, through the collection of samples of wastewater in Casablanca, Marrakech, Tangier and Fez, initially. This approach aims, according to him, to verify whether the coronavirus is spreading or not.
