The fusion of Chinese and Western elements shows a different charm of string music

The diverse styles and forms of repertoire showcase the rich musical charm of strings. Jiangnan Sizhu, the “excellent tradition” of the orchestra, cannot be absent from this string feast. Artistically directed by Shen Duomi, the successor of Jiangnan Sizhu, performers such as Shen Duolei and Liang Zhongyi brought the famous Jiangnan Sizhu song “Everyone Forgets Work”. The simple, elegant and enthusiastic melody shows the delicate and melodious timbre of strings.

It is worth mentioning that the orchestra’s Jiangnan Sizhu performance group won the gold medal in the “Jiangnan Sizhu Invitational Competition at Home and Abroad”. The string octet “Fighting the Tiger Up the Mountain” was adapted from “Taking the Tiger Mountain by Wisdom”. Eight huqin performers including Li Wei and Deng Yuemei performed the charm of modern Peking Opera, leading the audience to experience the fiery passion and ambition in the snowy forest.

In addition to the familiar traditional Chinese repertoire, the concert also staged well-known Western string works. Huqin performers Pan Junyu and Dong Shiluan brought the duet “Navarra”, which was originally a violin duet. In this performance, the two huqins cooperated tacitly, with gorgeous dazzling skills and cheerful rhythm, showing the bright and warm musical style of Spanish dance music. .

The national orchestra “Meteor in the Summer Night” is adapted from the famous Erhu song “Good Night”. The warm and pleasant melody is like the meteor flying across the sky on a summer night, which is gorgeous and romantic; Chapter five, under the soulful tune, expresses the ancient feelings of Chinese children of “drinking water and thinking about the source, seeking roots and worshipping ancestors”.

Many original novels debuted

In this performance, many of the songs are new creations that meet the audience for the first time. Huqin performer Zhang Jiawei of the orchestra and the orchestra brought composer Kong Zhixuan’s latest creation of “Tianyu Xianyun”. Banhu, erhu and Tibetan Xianzi all appeared, showing the different sound characteristics of various stringed instruments. From the perspectives of “heaven”, “earth” and “people”, the work integrates ethnic elements such as Tibetan opera, folk songs, Nangma, and Duixie, and reproduces the clear spirit of the snow-covered plateau and the spiritual realm of heaven, earth and human beings.

There are also two pieces for string ensemble composed and arranged by the orchestra players themselves. The trio “Xinjiang Wind Music and Dance” composed by huqin performer Chen Xiaoyan incorporates the rich musical elements of the Xinjiang ethnic group. Under the joint interpretation with the orchestra’s huqin performers Wang Jiayao and Luo Yuanyuan, the trio shows the ethnic minority customs who can sing and dance well and are enthusiastic. ; The premiere of the double bass quintet “Lu Li Yao”, composed by the orchestra’s double bass player Sun Hao, said about the reason for the creation of the piece: “I like free and humorous expression, and I hope that through the double bass, the lyrical uniqueness can be mixed. Tone, weaving a road leading to a Midsummer Night’s Dream, immersed in it while watching the flowers, lingering and fascinated after waking up, and experiencing the fun and bizarreness of the fantasy realm with the audience.”

As a special Easter egg of this concert, “The Power of Light” is the finale. This percussion ensemble piece was commissioned by the Shanghai Chinese Orchestra this spring to create the composer Li Bo. It was brewed during the epidemic. Common items such as computer keyboards and staplers have become musical instruments in the hands of the three performers.

Li Bo said: “The light in “The Power of Light” has actually been encountered by everyone in life. It accompanies you through unforgettable moments. As long as you believe in it, it will shine in your heart. , light up your world. With this new work, together with the Shanghai Chinese Orchestra, I hope that music will become an inextinguishable light in the hearts of the audience, conveying the faith and hope of life.”
