Masons will strike in November in Geneva
The masons will interrupt their activity on the construction sites on November 7 and 8. They demand better working conditions.
In Geneva, social relations are hardening in the construction sector. The masons voted for a two-day strike on the construction sites, on November 7 and 8, the unions announced on Monday. They demand better working conditions.
The Geneva masons oppose the new model of work organization wanted by the Swiss Society of Entrepreneurs (SSE). According to the unions, this flexibilization of working time would constitute “a social setback” and a “serious attack on the health and safety of workers”.
For the SSE, this model would on the contrary allow a better balance between professional and private life. Negotiations conducted so far for a new National Convention (NC) have failed to reconcile points of view. The unions are also demanding higher wages.
On the initiative of the three unions SIT, Syna and Unia, a vote was organized in the workplaces to decide on the measures of struggle to come. Of 2,632 voters, 2,105 opted for a two-day strike, or 82%, the unions said in a statement. Following this net result, they call for a general strike on the construction sites on November 7 and 8.
