Conmebol studies suspending the double qualifying date

The heads of Conmebol meet this Wednesday to decide if the next double date of Playoffs, scheduled for the end of March, is disputed or finally postponed due to the impossibility of having international players who play in European clubs and who will not be able to travel to their respective countries.

At the meeting already scheduled will be the ten presidents of the Conmebol member Associations and Gianni Infantino, president of FIFA. The problem lies mainly with the Premier League and Bundesliga players, as the clubs have refused to give in to the internationals. The Austrian and Belgian championships would also be added to that measure.

While the coaches work to present the squad lists for the important two qualifying matches of the Qatar World Cup 2022, Conmebol, at the request of some federations such as those of Uruguay, Ecuador, Paraguay Peru, will make a decision on whether to postpone those crucial matches in which each of the countries would have very sensitive casualties.

As reported by the journalist Fernando Czyz TNT Sports will make the decision this Wednesday, in a meeting that will start at 10 in the morning (local time). If this double date is postponed, two alternatives are considered. The first would be to play them just before the start of the Copa América, when preparation matches are usually played. The second is to seek a new FIFA window in consensus with UEFA and the European clubs.

At the moment in the Playoffs four games have been played, the last two in November, and Brazil leads the table with four wins ahead of Argentina, Ecuador Y Paraguay. Uruguay is the fifth classified.
