Conso alert: Carrefour recalls tortilla chips marketed throughout France

Carrefour recalls this product sold throughout France.

The large-scale retailer warns customers who have purchased Carrefour brand organic tortilla chips sold between January 20, 2022 and July 22, 2022.

All batches, marketed throughout France, indicating the GTIN code 3560070419456 are affected by this recall.

The brand, which gave the alert for the recall of this product on Wednesday August 10, asks not to consume it and to bring it back to the point of sale for a refund. Otherwise, Carrefour recommends that consumers destroy the product.

These packets of crisps are being recalled due to suspected trace amounts of tropane alkaloids in the corn flour used to make the product. “Tropanic alkaloids are toxic substances that occur naturally in certain species of weedy plants,” says the Directorate General for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Prevention. Tropane alkaloids can cause symptoms such as headaches or nausea.
