Four union members were arrested and four were injured when the union clashed with the police over the installation of an incense burner for the late Yang Hoi-dong.
The construction union held a cultural festival in memory of the late Yanghoe-dong member who set himself on fire on the 1st in front of the Finance Center in Jung-gu, Seoul from around 6:50 pm on the 31st. The police deployed more than 600 experienced people to the scene. Some of the riot police stood by with bags of capsaicin.

On this day, the construction union unexpectedly set up a tent saying, “We will build a memorial altar for martyrs in Yanghoe-dong,” and an armed conflict broke out with the police trying to stop it.
The police repeated warning broadcasts, “Disband immediately for violating the assembly law,” but the union did not back down, swearing and fighting.

As the union members and the police intertwined, screams of “I will be crushed” and “People will die” came out, and one member fell to the floor and showed symptoms of breathing difficulties. Four members of the union who were judged to have assaulted the police were arrested on the spot and are being investigated for obstruction of justice. A police officer was also seen lying on the ground with an eye injury.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency said, “We have arrested four people who assaulted a police officer on the spot and are investigating them on charges of obstruction of public order.” .
Eventually, after a confrontation, the incense burner was demolished around 7:06 p.m. Police blocked the installation of tents at the request of the district office for administrative support.
Afterwards, the construction union started a memorial cultural festival in earnest on a simple stage. The construction union said, “The police crushed the act of commemorating the martyr Yang Hoi-dong with violence.
About 20,000 protesters (according to the organizers) finished the rally and dispersed around 8:22 p.m. The originally planned march to the police station did not go ahead.
Starting this day, the construction union plans to hold a memorial cultural festival in front of the Finance Center every weekday at 7:00 pm and Saturday at 6:30 pm.
