Consultation committee: new turn of the screw concerning travel, new turn of the police screw?

Lhe regional and federal governments have announced checks and fines for those who violate the ban on non-essential travel. On VTM Friday evening, after the Consultative Committee, the Minister of the Interior Annelies Verlinden admitted that the police could not monitor the borders without interruption. But that it would nonetheless ensure that the ban was applied.

“We are counting on the understanding of citizens that these measures are necessary,” she said. The police will set up an action plan from Saturday to supervise the controls. Travelers must carry with them a declaration on their honor that their trip is essential. “The police can check if the statement corresponds to reality: if there are skis on the roof of a car, the police will have the chip in the ear”, slipped Annelies Verlinden.
