For his part, the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said in an online briefing from Geneva today, Wednesday, “I am concerned about the persistence of infection because this may indicate that the virus will establish its presence and can be transmitted to vulnerable groups, including children, those with immune diseases and pregnant women.” .

Cases of the virus have been detected during the current outbreak in more than 50 countries outside the endemic countries of Africa.
The organization also notes that cases are increasing in those countries, and called for intensifying testing and examinations to detect it.
It is noteworthy that since the outbreak began in May, 3,400 cases of monkeypox have been detected, while one death has been recorded, according to the World Health Organization.
More than 1,500 cases of infection and 66 deaths have occurred in countries where the disease has traditionally been spread this year.
