Prior to the discharge of contaminated water in Fukushima, Japan, an inspection team dispatched by the government returned to Korea on the 26th. Since the discharge of contaminated water is directly related to the lives and health of the people, a quick follow-up report at the National Assembly level was expected, but the ruling party has not even set a schedule.

The Democratic Party is in a position to hold a full meeting on the 30th, right after the holiday, to make a quick post-inspection report. However, the power of the people is hoping that the Fukushima issue will be delayed as much as possible as it is not in their favor.

In particular, Rep. Yoon Han-hong, secretary of the ruling party of the National Assembly’s Political Affairs Committee, departed on the 24th to attend his son’s graduation ceremony and plans to return on the 4th of next month. He feels especially burdened when a meeting is held without a secretary.

According to the coverage of Cookie News on the 27th, the ruling and opposition parties are having difficulties in discussing the Fukushima inspection team’s follow-up report schedule to the National Assembly and the adoption of witnesses. The Democratic Party of Korea proposed to proceed with the post-reporting procedure through a plenary meeting of the National Assembly Political Affairs Committee on the 30th, but the people’s strength is rejecting it.

The Democratic Party judges that a quick follow-up report is necessary as the cause of death is directly related to the life and health of the people. As it is a matter of great national interest, it is desperately needed to fulfill the right to know. In addition, as the preliminary report was carried out in an informal manner at the request of the ruling party, the follow-up report must be thorough.

However, the ruling party showed strong disapproval. Representative Yoon Han-hong, secretary of the ruling party of the National Assembly’s Political Affairs Committee, left for the United States on the 24th due to his personal circumstances, but he said that he could not receive a follow-up report while the secretary was absent.

On the 25th, Secretary Yoon did not attend the National Assembly’s Political Affairs Committee even when the report on the personnel hearing for the first Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs Park Min-sik was adopted on the 25th.

The ruling and opposition parties are also revealing their differences in the list of witnesses present. The opposition party insists that the heads of the Office for Government Policy Coordination, including Yoo Gook-hee, the head of the Fukushima-contaminated water inspection team, be present in order to have a substantial follow-up report. However, the ruling party is arguing that Director Yoo Kook-hee attend, but instead of the head of the Office for Government Policy Coordination, the first deputy director of the Office for Government Policy Coordination should attend as in the prior report.

An official from the National Assembly’s Political Affairs Committee told Cookie News, “At the time of the preliminary report conducted before the departure of the Fukushima contaminated water inspection team on the 17th, the first deputy director of the Office for Government Policy Coordination, Park Gu-yeon, promised to disclose the list of inspection groups, but it has not yet been made public.” It is only raising public suspicion by proceeding with inspections without permission. It is necessary to inform the public in detail through an immediate follow-up report even for thorough disclosure of the inspection team’s activities,” he emphasized.

Meanwhile, the office of Congressman Han-Hong Yoon was contacted to confirm the schedule for the departure and return of the Congressman, but an official from the Office only replied, “We cannot confirm the schedule of the Congressman.”
