Retail: Coop takes several Mars products off the shelf because of price hikes

The US food company Mars increased the price of several products. Coop does not agree with this price increase and no longer has the products in its range.

A kilo of Ben’s original long-grain rice at Coop currently costs 5.70 francs. The US food company Mars wanted to increase the price for this and ten other products, as the retailer explained in the current «Coop Zeitung» announces.

Coop is defending itself against this price increase. “Coop does not agree with this price policy and has therefore decided to permanently remove various products from the Ben’s Original, Balisto and Crave brands from the range,” reports the “Coop Zeitung” in its current issue.

The products are available as long as they are in stock. As alternatives, Coop proposes products from its own organic and cheap lines, which are cheaper than those from Mars.

Already argued about prices in 2019

How much Mars wanted to raise prices is clear Tamedia newspapers not clear. The business relationships with partners like Coop would be “very much appreciated”, says a spokeswoman for the Tamedia newspapers.

Coop and Mars were already arguing about purchase prices in 2019. Some Mars Group products, including M&M’s, Uncle Ben’s and Sugus, were unavailable in Coop stores for around two months. Finally, an agreement was found.
