Corona patient loses his sight for two days

Elaf from Washington: In a rare and surprising case of how the Corona virus tampered with the body’s immune system, an American man lost his sight in the right eye for two days as a result of being infected with the virus, according to a report published by Al-Hurra website.

In a research published by the “Jama Eye and Otology” magazine, doctors diagnosed a 70-year-old man with corona after suffering from a runny nose. After two weeks he recovered, but he continued to suffer from severe headaches before it progressed to losing his sight in the right eye.

And the tomography showed that the source of the patient’s suffering is inflammation of the sinuses that extends to the right side of his face.

The condition was so serious that it started causing erosion of the bones, which necessitated an emergency procedure to remove as much of the inflamed parts as possible in the nasal cavities.

The diagnosis also showed the presence of bacteria in the tissues called “Streptococcus constellatus”, usually found only in the intestines and oral cavity, and can pose a great danger if it moves to other parts of the body.

Doctors succeeded in treating the patient after giving him antibiotics, and he regained his sight, and his condition improved within three weeks of treatment.

The doctors said that the patient’s condition prompts an interesting question about Corona’s relationship with these symptoms, at a time when the virus continues to surprise doctors with rare symptoms, according to the “Al-Hurra” website.

The Corona virus continues to claim its victims all over the world, and the outcome has reached 4,472,486 deaths in the world since the World Health Organization office in China reported the emergence of the disease at the end of December 2019.

At least 214,500,660 people have been confirmed infected with the virus since its appearance. The vast majority of those infected recovered, although some continued to experience symptoms weeks or even months later.
