David Nabarro, special envoy to the World Health Organization (WHO), predicts a third wave of the coronavirus epidemic in early 2021 in Europe if governments reproduce what he calls a mistake in the face of the second wave of the epidemic in Classes.
In an interview with a group of Swiss dailies, Dr Nabarro judges that European governments have failed “to develop the necessary infrastructure during the summer months, after having mastered the first wave”.
“Today we have a second wave. If they don’t build the necessary infrastructure, we’ll have a third wave early next year“, continues the Briton, who insists on the establishment at the local level of systems for tracing confirmed cases in order to be able to very quickly break the chains of contamination.
Check the isolation
“We need very close monitoring of people to know who is infected”, he adds, advocating that isolation be checked.
He also compares the situation in Switzerland, where the authorities have authorized the practice of skiing with compulsory masks on ski lifts, and the behavior in Asian countries such as South Korea.
Switzerland, he says, could end up with “a very high level of sickness and death”.
In Asia, he adds, containment measures have not been relaxed prematurely.
In Asia, they protect the most vulnerable groups
“People are fully engaged, they adopt behaviors that hinder the virus. They keep their distance, wear masks, isolate themselves when they are sick, wash their hands and surfaces (note, on which the virus can be deposited) . They protect the most vulnerable groups. “
“We have to wait until the numbers of cases are low and remain low,” continues David Nabarro. “Europe‘s reaction has been incomplete.”
