Coronavirus: China confirms first COVID-19 death in eight months

China confirmed the first death by COVID-19 in eight months, at a time when it is trying to stop new outbreaks through confinements and is preparing for the arrival of experts from the World Health Organization (WHO) to study the origin of the pandemic.

This death occurred in the province of Hebeisaid the National Health Commission, without providing further details.

The latest death from the new coronavirus in China continental dates back to May 2020.

According to the official balance, 4 635 people have died in the country due to COVID-19, which has already caused almost two million deaths in the world.

A team made up of 10 researchers from the World Health Organization plans to arrive in the country this Thursday to investigate the origin of the pandemic in Wuhan (central China), where the virus was first detected in late 2019.

Chinese authorities announced 138 new cases on Thursday. This is the highest daily balance since last March.
