Coronavirus: Europe is arguing about the opening of the ski resorts

Bund-Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) and the prime ministers of the federal states agree that the corona pandemic does not allow skiing holidays this winter. On Thursday, Merkel called in the Bundestag to keep all ski areas in Europe closed until January 10th. France and Italy support this course, Italy does not even want to open its ski areas this winter. The Alpine republics of Austria and Switzerland, on the other hand, want to welcome skiers.

But the resistance from Rome, Berlin and Munich is great. The governments fear that ski enthusiasts will move to Switzerland or Austria because France and Italy will disappear, return from there infected and then occupy the scarce intensive care beds at home. The showdown will take place in Brussels, Berlin and Rome have already made sure of that.
